The 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale witnessed the Sledmere Stud team successfully meet the demands of a 40-plus horse consignment and a full week of parades out at Riverside Stables, Warwick Farm. After the dust had settled following the auction, our collective effort had witnessed 32 Lots changing hands for an aggregate of $3,367,500 — a figure which established Sledmere as the second leading vendor by aggregate
The Classic Sale saw major goals kicked on all three days of trading on behalf of a broad spectrum of clients. The highlights included a colt by sophomore sire Ardrossan selling for $260,000; a full-sister to $500,000 Inglis Banner winner Arkansaw Kid fetching $250,000; a daughter of Russian Revolution changing hands for $240,000 — the most paid for any member of the breed in the sale; and a wide selection of revered stables having enough confidence in Sledmere Stud graduates to take at least one home.
Offered as Lot 183 on behalf of New Zealand’s leading breeders Waikato Stud, the Ardrossan colt was knocked-down to Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA) for $260,000. As Waikato Sud pointed out on its Twitter Platform, his purchase price was “95-times his service fee in the 2020 season”. This quality youngster hails from the second-crop of the exciting Waikato Stud resident sire whose first-crop progeny include this season’s Listed WRC Wellesley Stakes winner Codigo.
Day 2 of the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale saw Lot 428 of the Sledmere Stud draft sell for $250,000 to John Wheeler of Victoria. The Harry Angel (Ire) filly was sold on behalf of Philippa Duncan and continued the outstanding run our longer-term client and close friend of the farm is enjoying with the Exceed And Excel mare Florabella.
The star Russian Revolution offering in this year’s Classic Sale, Lot 688 proved to be the highlight for our team on Day 3 when selling to Ciaron Maher Bloodstock & Astute Bloodstock (FBAA) for $240,000.
Significantly, Maher was amongst a swag of much-respected trainers to have bought from Sledmere Stud at this year’s Classic Sale, others including the likes of — and in no particular order — Tony & Calvin McEvoy, Annabel Neasham, John Thompson, Cliff Brown, Archie Alexander, Anthony Freedman, Richard & Will Freedman, Nick Ryan, Mathew Dunn, Brad Widdup and Gerald Ryan.
