Prima Bella (NZ) became the first stakes winner of the new racing season for Sledmere Stud as a graduate of our 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale draft consigned on behalf of our great friends and associates Little Avondale Stud, NZ.

Exceptionally well managed by Warwick Farm trainer Matthew Smith, the lightly-raced 6-year-old daughter of the outstanding New Zealand-based sire Per Incanto showed great determination under a terrific Kerrin McEvoy ride to land the Toy Show Quality (1100m) at Group 3 level — her maiden black-type success!

The Smith stable stated on it’s Facebook page the following day: “We raised the bar again and she delivered in spades.

“Prima Bella was brilliant yesterday taking out the Group 3 Toy Show Quality at Randwick with Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.

“Her trademark grit was on full display as she fought back in the final strides to make it three wins in a row, earning herself valuable black type.

“Congratulations to her great group of owners.”

Prima Bella (NZ) took her race record to eight wins from just 15 starts, having also placed on another three occasions. The victory saw her earnings climb to $480,825, while her Pattern Race success sees her value as a broodmare increase appreciably.

Prima Bella (NZ) joined a growing list of Per Incanto stakes winners to be sold by Sledmere Stud as yearlings — the majority on behalf of the Williams family of Little Avondale Stud. Saturday’s Toy Show winner follows the likes of Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Little Brose, now a stallion on the Little Avondale Stud roster, and triple Group winner Evaporate (NZ), whose earnings now exceed $3.2 million.

In addition, Per Incanto offspring also consigned by Sledmere Stud as yearlings include the $1 million earner Rue de Royale (NZ), very recent Sydney Midway winner Rolling Magic (NZ), and the multiple Melbourne metropolitan winner Enchanted Jenni (NZ).
