The 2020 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale witnessed Sledmere Stud sell the highest priced member of the first-crop Russian Revolution breed on offer at the live auction when Lot 322 fetched $150,000.
The third foal of the stakes performed Written Tycoon mare Novel Dancer, the quality colt was knocked down to Laurel Oak Bloodstock, who probably knew more about the youngster’s potential than most.
It is a Laurel Oak syndication ownership group which races his stakes winning half-brother Pancho, a son of Dissident who saluted in the Listed VRC TCL TV Stakes (1800m) during last year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival — beating subsequent Group 1 SAJC Derby winner Russian Camelot no less!
Coincidentally, Pancho was also sold by Sledmere as a weanling back in 2017, and also fetched the exact same amount of $150,000.
In addition to Lot 322, Sledmere also sold another Russian Revolution weanling colt, from the Charge Forward mare Catchulata, for $80,000 to Arlington Park Racing. The striking chestnut is the first foal of a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner Response, herself the dam of Golden Slipper winning Estijaab.
Other than the two Russian Revolution colts which fetched a collective $230,000, the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale saw Sledmere successfully sell an Exceed And Excel filly for $100,000 to Pinhook Bloodstock P/L. Catalogued as Lot 218, the filly is the first foal of a winning Show of Heart mare directly descended from the Group 1 AuRC Railway Stakes winner Silver Tip.
