The 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale witnessed a thoroughly professional performance by the Sledmere Stud sales team when maintaining the very high standards we’ve set ourselves in recent years.
With 10 members of our 17-Lot consignment by first season sires, there was obviously very little to go by in regards to how the new breeds would be received. Yet each and every newcomer we offered found a good home and there was widespread satisfaction with the outcome.
The basic facts are that all but one Lot in our draft was successfully traded and the collective receipts for the 16 yearlings sold amounted to $3.52 million — at an average of $221,375.
The highest priced realised by a member of our draft was $450,000 when none other than Chris Waller and his main bloodstock adviser Guy Mulcaster secured a first-crop son of Super Seth offered as Lot 194.
Notably, Sledmere Stud successfully sold yearlings by 12 different stallions at #MMGC23, including no fewer than seven first season stallions comprising Blue Point (Ire), Cosmic Force, Microphone, Omaha Beach (USA), Super Seth, Tassort and Yes Yes Yes.
By close of business the Super Seth colt offered by Sledmere Stud as Lot 194 (on behalf of Waikato Stud) topped the prices of seven members of this new exciting breed.
Similarly, our sales team also sold the most expensive Cosmic Force when Lot 748 went to Bennett Racing Pty Ltd for $250,000, as well as the most expensive Omaha Beach (USA) when Kennewell Racing/Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA)/Matt Houldsworth landed the racy colt with a winning bid of $210,000.
In terms of offspring of established sires, a son and a daughter of Per Incanto sold for $330,000 and $300,000 respectively; a smashing son of Toronado (Ire) from the dual Group 2 winning racemare Bird of Fire (NZ) fetched $260,000; and the only Savabeel yearling offered over the whole five days of Book 1 was purchased by Anthony Cummings Racing for $200,000.
Anthony Cummings joined an impressive line-up of Group 1 winning trainers to purchase a member of our 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft along with the aforementioned Chris Waller, Ben & JD Hayes, Ciaron Maher, Peter Moody, Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, Danny O’Brien and Lloyd Kennewell. It’s a wonderful reflection of how much confidence leading stables have in Sledmere graduates.
All things considered, another outstanding Sledmere Stud team effort managed to get some very satisfactory outcomes for a wonderful bunch of owners.
