The first week of May 2022 won’t be forgotten in a hurry at Sledmere Stud with another momentous few days of bloodstock sales being followed by a Group 1 success by a sales graduate. No sooner had the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale and Inglis Chairman’s Sale been concluded when we were all on another ‘high’ following the brilliant — all-the-way — victory of Snapdancer in the coveted Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville in Adelaide.
But first things first.
The 2022 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale witnessed Sledmere Stud sell youngsters for upto $290,000 (Lot 214) on behalf of our wonderful clients, with additional six-figure sales of $240,000 (Lot 89) and $170,000 (Lot 158) being recorded. Taking pride of place was a colt by Blue Point (Ire) bred by Rifa Mustang, and two sons of sire sensation Russian Revolution bred by China Horse Club.
At the end of the weanling sale Sledmere Stud proudly sat second on the leading vendor by aggregate table with 14 Lots sold for a total of $1.1 million at an average of $78,571 and median of $49,000.
The 2022 Inglis Chairman’s Sale of the Friday evening proved to be another resounding success for Sledmere Stud and our clients. Given the privilege of putting mares of the calibre of Daysee Doom, Quantum Mechanic, Yes Baby Yes etc, through the ring, our six-horse consignment realised an aggregate of $4,150,000, with the aforementioned Daysee Doom ($1.1 million) and Quantum Mechanic ($1.2 million) being amongst five mares that changed hands for seven-figures on the night.
It also gave the Sledmere Stud team great delight to offer and sell Yes Baby Yes for $520,000 to Astute Bloodstock (FBAA) / G Williamson NSW. The dual Group 2 winner was bred, raised, sold and co-raced by Sledmere Stud, and to have played our part again in selling her as a breeding prospect saw us bring to an end another great chapter in the stud’s more recent history.
Interstate Pattern Race racing the following day just put the proverbial icing on the cake. Sledmere Stud sale graduate Snapdancer ran out an emphatic winner of the ultra-prestigious Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville to become the latest Group 1 winner on our proud outfit’s honour roll.
Sold on behalf of Sheamus Mills Bloodstock for $180,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the 5-year-old daughter of Choisir took her earnings to $1,299,620 for Brad Spicer and his co-owners comprising Brut Racing 1, Mr G S Palatinus, Ms A Barabas, Mr B F Sokolski, Mr P W Blundell, Mr B J Felstead, Brut Racing 2, Mr S Wootten, Mr Z Angelovski, Mr M C Sparkes, Mrs K L Sparkes, Mr B Healy, Mr A M Dowie, Mr T J G Healy, Mr E P Clarke, Mrs R L Clarke & Mr M L Lasky.
