The 2020 renewal of the Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale will not be forgotten in a hurry. Hit by a ‘once in a generation’ weather front that witnessed the resolve and mettle of vendors and buyers tested to the full as the entire metropolis of Sydney was brought to a standstill, the final figures of the auction spoke volumes for everyone who played their part in staging what resulted in another positive domestic bloodstock sale outcome.
Sledmere Stud’s sales team were very much at the forefront and reaped the rewards of their determined and dedicated work. When the sale came a halt on Tuesday evening, our 2020 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale (Book1) stats read 26 yearlings offered for 23 yearlings sold, for an aggregate of $1,664,000. In addition, a further two Lots were sold during the Highway Session.
Most notably, our draft included no fewer than half-a-dozen six-figure sales led by a Hinchinbrook-Radiant filly (Lot 396) which fetched $180,000 and is now set to racing in the unmistakable colours of Star Thoroughbreds after being bought in tandem by the syndication company and Randwick Bloodstock Agency.
Top-price of the colts Sledmere sold was also a member of Hinchinbrook’s final yearling crop, in this case a son produced by Etain (NZ) and offered as Lot 126 before being knocked down to John Foote Bloodstock for $160,000.
Colts by Written Tycoon (Lot 376), Star Turn (Lot 429), Better Than Ready (Lot 114) and Vancouver (Lot 389) were also sold for $150,000, $140,000, $110,000 and $105,000 respectively.
Serving as testament to the calibre of Sledmere’s Classic Sale draft was the extensive number of outstanding thoroughbred concerns that purchased at least one member of our consignment. We thank them all for the confidence they have in the various brands our offering carried as well as in the expertise Sledmere applies in sales preparation.
A big thanks also goes out to our team, which came through the week with their heads held high after encountering the most trying set of weather conditions experienced at any bloodstock sale staged in recent memory.
Next stop for the Sledmere Stud sales team is the Melbourne Premier on March 1-3 where our yearling draft comprises of 11 fillies and two colts by a comprehensive range of outstanding stallions including the respective reigning champion sires of Australia and New Zealand in the form of Snitzel and Savabeel.
