A sustained sequence of Group success by Sledmere Stud sale graduates continued on The Everest program at Royal Randwick when Trumbull (NZ) won the Group 3 Sydney Stakes (1200m) — a race billed as a consolation event to the main feature and worth $500,000.
Trained with expert precision by Kim Waugh, the 5-year-old was first-up from a spell after last racing in July and posted his seventh career win from just 20 starts. The Kiwi-bred son of Darci Brahma has now amassed $628,110 in prizemoney for an ownership group comprising Mr M E Waugh, Ralph Johns Family, Mr R J Albert, Ms M A Harrod, Mr F W Cook, Mrs C M Cook, Mr D N Mcrae, Mr J Koller, Mr P A Till, Bill Duncan Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Mr M W Thomas, Mr D Cilia, Mrs C A Cilia, Mr G Maroun & Four 4 Bob.
Trumbull (NZ) was consigned by Sledmere Stud for the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he fetched $65,000. Purchased by O’Gorman Racing, the gelding was then again offered for sale at the Inglis Ready-2-Run later that same year where he sold to Kim Waugh Racing for $125,000.
Trumbull’s Group 3 success continued a late winter-early spring sequence which has seen Sledmere Stud sales graduate Dame Giselle record a hat-trick of Group 2 victories and Dirty Work’s brilliant last-to-first MRC Schillaci Stakes (G2) win at Caulfield.
Trumbull’s Royal Randwick triumph was also part of a Friday-to-Sunday four-timer of wins recorded by Sledmere Stud at locations as far afield as Wingatai and the Sunshine Coast. Significantly, the Sunshine Coast program saw the debut success of Berdini’s Girl, a first-crop daughter of Odyssey Moon who proved to be the very first winner of her sire’s stud career. The 2-year-old filly was bred by Woodpark Stud and purchased for just $35,000 by Munce Racing & Arthur Hoyeau.
