Arkansaw Kid continues to lead the way for Sledmere Stud graduates in season 2024/25. A first-up winner at Listed Race level, the 4-year-old son of Darley shuttle sire Harry’s Angel (Ire) added the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Stakes (1200m) to his tally last Saturday with a courageous effort down the Flemington straight.
Backing up seven days after a very narrow defeat at Moonee Valley, the Lindsay Park-trained gelding took on some of Melbourne’s most talented sprinters and fought off all challengers for a gutsy win. The $190,000 yearling purchase has now amassed $1,335,950 after just 16 starts — having shown admirable versatility by winning at Moonee Valley, Caulfield (twice) and down the straight-six at Flemington.
Arkansaw Kid keeps enhancing his race record and is now a Group 2 winning @SledmereStud graduate after racing with so much distinction as a 2 & 3YO … Congrats @lindsayparkrace on another outstanding training effort and co-owner/breeder Philippa Duncan on his ongoing success! https://t.co/tVn5kqH3Hu

Speaking after the win, co-trainer Ben Hayes said in part: “We’ve always had a high opinion of him and he bounced back today. I was a little bit disappointed with his performance last week [in the Chautauqua Stakes] but he was back this week and strong to the line. He loved the wet track.”
Arkansaw KId was ridden to victory by Craig ‘Froggy’ Newitt who remarked: “He’s a progressive sprinter, this bloke, on the quick back-up. He travelled really well throughout and when I asked him to accelerate, he picked up on the ground and really appreciated it.
“The [Hayes] boys were very bullish before the race. I haven’t had a ride for them in a while so it is good to get a winner.”
Arkansaw Kid continues to enhance his impressive race record and is now a Group 2 winning Sledmere Stud graduate after racing with so much distinction as a 2- & 3-year-old. Lindsay Park Racing actually started his career off by winning the $500,000 Inglis Banner at his first ever start, and produced him again on Saturday as a 4-year-old for his finest career win to date.
Arkansaw Kid races on behalf of an Inglis Pink Bonus ladies ownership group which includes his breeder, Philippa Duncan. He was sold on her behalf through Sledmere Stud’s 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale
