The Sledmere Stud sales team headed back to Scone after a demanding 10 days at Bundall in South-East Queensland delighted with its efforts at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

A marathon event which traditionally kicks-off each new bloodstock selling period in this corner of the thoroughbred world, this year’s renewal witnessed a larger catalogue than ever seen before and the Queensland elements presenting their usual share of complications in conducting parades in the lead-up to the sale.

However, at the end of the exercise, the ‘Job Done’ sign was well and truly warranted for a Sledmere Stud consignment basically comprising two dozen Lots in number and consisting of yearlings by an assortment of sires.

Following the late withdrawal of Lot 753, Sledmere actually presented 23 yearlings over the five days of Session 1 with all but one of the draft being successfully sold (at the time of writing).
The 22 yearlings to change hands on the Gold Coast amassed $5,198,000 in receipts at an average of $236,273, the most expensive single purchase proving to be an I Am Invincible-Lady Loire filly (Lot 842) which fetched $825,000 when secured by Ciaron Maher Bloodstock on Day 3.

The highest-priced colt sold by our team during five full days of trading proved to be a son of Written Tycoon produced from You Hadme at Hello (Lot 375) which was knocked-down to Rosemont Stud/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Lindsay Park Racing for $520,000. A magnificent colt by Maurice (Jpn) ex Lady Cumquat also realized a relatively similar price-tag when bought by Nick Ryan Racing for $460,000.

Such was the variety of this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale draft, the progeny of no fewer than 19 different stallions were successfully sold by the Sledmere Stud sales team last week, including the likes of freshman sires Anders, Bivouac, Doubtland and Prague.

Likewise, the vast array of purchasers of our stock included a good number of leading trainers and very well established thoroughbred bloodstock buyers which all contributed to another significantly successful auction — both generally speaking and in terms of the outcomes achieved for Sledmere Stud’s valued clients.
