Sledmere Stud graduate Revolutionary Miss created headlines for the second Saturday in a row when adding the Group 3 Caulfield Catanach’s Jewellers Mannerism Stakes (1400m) to her Group 3 Flemington Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) win recorded just one week beforehand.
In what proved to be a masterstroke by the Peter & Paul Snowden training partnership, Revolutionary Miss was sent to the races on Blue Diamond Stakes Day to run in her second major black-type event on consecutive Saturdays and ‘came up trumps’ in a dominant performance to land her second Group 3 event in a week and the sixth win of her 23 start career.
Ridden a perfect race by Kiwi jockey Michael Dee, the first crop daughter of Russian Revolution scored a one and three-quarter length victory from Running By, with Vagrant claiming the minor placing as the $3.90 favourite.
Speaking after the win, senior co-trainer Peter Snowden remarked: “She’s a mare in good form and when mares get in good form they hold it, and she’s doing exactly that right now.
“These sort of races suit her perfectly because they’re set weights races. She’s won about one-and-a-half million dollars in prizemoney now and she’s beating horses that are just going through the grades. I call them bread and butter races; they’re very important for her, she’s got a tremendous record and it won’t be long before she goes to a sale and no doubt she’ll be worth a lot of money.”
Snowden also revealed that Revolutionary Miss will take on Group 1 company at her next start when she lines-up in the Coolmore Classic in Sydney. He added: “… she deserves a crack at a decent race now, she’s earned the right to be there. Her ratings are up nice and high and she’ll be competitive. If she gets a good draw, she can race on speed, she’s learned to tough races out well now.”
Winning rider Michael Dee was equally complementary about the Triple Crown Syndications raced 4-year-old.
“She’s a dream to ride,” Dee began. “She’s obviously a model of consistency. She’s better from a better gate where she can possie-up just in behind them like we did last week. Today it was a little bit of a question mark having to work up the hill to get the position we did, but I felt pretty comfortable doing so and she won very comfortably in the end.
“Peter told me before the race that she hadn’t left an oat all week so he was very confident she’d pulled up well … she’s done the back up before. So onwards and upwards. She’s in a great frame of mind and there’s certainly more in store for her.”
A Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate, Sledmere Stud graduate Revolutionary Miss has now won five individual Group 2 or 3 contests and twice placed at Group 1 level. Her latest victory took her earnings to $1,545,865.
