When the curtain came down on the 2022-23 racing season graduates of Sledmere Stud were ‘front and centre’.
During an unprecedented 12 months of feature race results, Sledmere Stud could lay claim to no fewer than four individual Group 1 winners in all forms of competition — from the Blue Diamond (G1) success of Little Brose in the juvenile division and the Randwick Guineas (G1) victory of Communist in the 3-year-old ranks, to the elite triumphs of Snapdancer and Icebath (NZ) in open age.
Group race success was also achieved by graduates Veight and Revolutionary Miss, the former proving to be successful in the Sires’ Produce (G2) at Flemington and the latter in the Kewney Stakes (G2) at the very same venue.
The combined successes of the aforementioned contingent amounted to no fewer than six graduates of the farm saluting at Pattern Race level during the course of the past season, with a further three individuals also placed in stakes company — that trio comprising Perfect Proposal (2d Gimcrack Stakes-G3), Pancho (3d Brisbane Handicap-LR) and Get Up Girl (3d The Amanda Elliott-LR).
Whichever you look at it, season 2022/23 was one to remember for a farm which has been in existence for more than 100 years and, if anything, is now even more so at the forefront of domestic thoroughbred racing and breeding as it has been in any previous era.
