Sledmere’s very healthy sequence of stakes wins by recent sales graduates continues late in to the 2019/20 domestic racing season, the very latest being Saturday’s Listed ATC Civic Stakes (1350m) victory of the Kim Waugh-trained Trumbull (NZ).

A progressive 4-year-old son of Darci Brahma, Trumbull broke through for his maiden black-type success when responsible for a powerful late finish up the inside rail of the Rosehill Gardens straight to claim an impressive one-length win under an enterprising ride by Tommy Berry.

In so doing, Trumbull took his earnings — for owners Mr M E Waugh, Ralph Johns Family, Mr R J Albert, Ms M A Harrod, Mr F W Cook, Mrs C M Cook, Mr D N Mcrae, Mr J Koller, Mr P A Till, Bill Duncan Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Mr M W Thomas, Mr D Cilia, Mrs C A Cilia, Mr G Maroun and Four 4 Bob — to a figure close on $350,000.

The result of last Saturday’s feature event is a real good story involving a number of people who have played an important role in developing the rising 5-year-old into a bona fide black-type winner.

Bred in New Zealand, Trumbull was initially offered by Sledmere Stud at the 2017 Inglis Sydney Classic Yearling Sale where he was sold to Melanie O’Gorman Racing for $65,000.

Subsequently prepared for the Inglis Ready-2-Race Sale later in the same year, Trumbull was then onsold by Mel O’Gorman to Wyong-based trainer Kim Waugh for $125,000.

The Civic Stakes success of Trumbull was a ‘feather in the cap’ to both of these much-respected horsewomen, each having recognising untapped potential in a yearling we were equally grateful to consign on behalf of our client.

With arguably still his biggest win waiting ahead, Trumbull has now won close on six-times his yearling sale price tag and is getting up towards three-times the sum he changed hands for when consigned for Inglis Ready-2-Race — amounting to a win-win-win story if there ever was one!

Trumbull joined fellow Sledmere Stud sales graduates Dirty Work and Dame Giselle to have won a feature stakes event in Sydney since the beginning of the year.
